Indiesplosion: Andrew Bird & St. Vincent coming to South Portland, October 24th
Update (7/18/09): The pre-sale is now over. You can now buy tickets at Ticketmaster (chunky convenience charges included) or at the Cumberland County Civic Center (no convenience charges, I believe).
Wow. This year just got a whole lot better for live shows in Maine. After being treated by They Might Be Giants, Dirty Projectors, OK Go, and many other great national acts, along with Ween, Wilco, Conor Oberst, Neko Case and De La Soul on the horizon, there is some very exciting news for Maine shows in the Fall, especially for us South Portland residents.
Whistling/string-enthusiast Andrew Bird and the lovely St. Vincent will be playing at the South Portland High School Auditorium on Saturday, October 24th. Gotta give it to HypeFork for breaking the news. You can pre-order tickets here.
I’m personally excited for this show, because I graduated from South Portland High and I have lived in South Portland for almost my entire life. The other reason is very simple: Andrew Bird.
Andrew Bird is one of my favorite artists this year, especially with the release of Noble Beast, a fantastic, yet underrated album for 2009. One of my favorites on this album has to be “Not a Robot, But a Ghost”. It’s a beautiful combination of strings, whistling and some acoustic techno beats. And I can’t forget his wonderful, gentle voice. Listen to the track here:
If I’m not already at the CMJ Festival in NYC the same week, I’ll definitely be going to this concert.
–Dylan

Got a wicked Beirut vibe from that song. Not a bad thing, just saying that lyrically and vocally they’re quite similar.
He’s been around a bit longer than Beirut (10 years to be exact), so I hope he gets the credit where credit is due.
Hi! Does anyone know where to purchase tickets? The pre-sale is apparently closed.
Thanks!
You can buy online at Ticketmaster right here or go to the Cumberland County Civic Center and purchase tickets directly there. If you’re in or close to Portland, I would highly recommend buying them at CCCC. The Ticketmaster convenience fees are awful!
Thanks so much!!
